7000 BC – 2500 BC

After the arrival of the Paleo-Indians, scientists have detected the presence of a more advanced culture. These people lived from around 7000 BC to 2,500 BC and are now referred to as the Archaic People. The Archaic people were distinct from the Paleo-Indians because they hunted smaller animals such as deer and rabbits as well as fish. These people also began relying more on the gathering of plants such as manoic, coco and sweet potatoes as food. These were still a stone age culture but these people also started to farm in Belize. The Archaic peoples started growing crops like sweet potatoes, yams, coco and manoic.
