The Industries of Belize
Belize is a small country but it has a number of soil, water and geologic resources that are used to produce forestry, agricultural and petroleum products. The natural resources of the country are also used to produce tourism services. The first industry that was started in the 1650s was logwood. This wood was used to produce dye for clothes. After logwood, mahogany which was extracted to produce furniture, ships and railway carriages in England became the main industry between the 1770s and around 1950 when agricultural industries became the main income earners for the country. The first major agricultural industry was sugarcane.
